• Soft Tissue Injury
    • At least 40% of any chronic ‘soft tissue injury’ involves the bone, especially injuries that are worsening over time. It’s hard to imagine this has been overlooked.

  • Bone
    • Increased pressure in the cortex of the bone will cause pain and compromise blood flow. Again, edema is the culprit. Due to the low compliance of bone, only a little edema will shoot the pressure up. Bacteria know this and that may be why biofilms are found here.

  • Proteoglycans
    • News! There is more to life than connective tissue. Proteoglycans are produced by more cell types than fibrocytes, The proteoglycans involved in our common pathophysiology are likely produced by cells of an ectodermal origin.

  • Generator of Pain
    • Simplistically the generator of pain is due to chemical and pressure effects on the nerves, particularly interstitial nerves. Too much pressure and/or too little blood are often the cause.
    • A perfect example is discogenic low back pain. The pressure within the endplate is too high.

  • Scar tissue
    • Proteoglycans may attract up to fifty times their weight in water molecules. Proteoglycans mixed with collagen fibres will hold in excess of one thousand times their weight in water molecules. Your ‘effective’ treatments on scar tissue may have little to do breaking down the scar or remodelling the collagen fibres.

  • Traction
    • News! When traction is applied to tissues the pressure within actually increases. The increased pressure will cause the gel to thin and the edema to egress. That is a major reason why muscle lengthening procedures are so effective. You can see that decompression is actually a misconception. Granted, vertebrae do move apart during traction.

  • Misalignment and Asymmetry (left and right ROM not the same)
    • Dr. Henri Gillett had the answer to misalignment. Fixation, Asymmetry and different ranges of motions left compared to right are also normal

  • Many Systems Based on Pseudo Science
    • Good science has the attribute of changing hypotheses in the light of new evidence, Most of what you have learned regarding pathophysiology and mechanism of action is wrong.I challenge you to break free from technique regimes and their associated ‘gurus’. Instead, help your respective association and help build your profession.

  • ‘Scientific’ Re-Branding of Ancient Therapies
    • Ironically, it may be from the ivied halls of universities comes this type of pseudoscience. One example is the mis-application of Cannon’s Law of denervation in regards to acupuncture. Through obfuscation, this ancient therapy is scientifically ‘restored’ and actually even renamed. In reality, it is no more than piracy. Eventually, the original explanation of pathology and mechanism of action will also be hijacked.

  • Forward Head Posture
    • The morphology of the upper thoracic and lower cervical vertebral bodies and discs have been altered due to the forces of gravity acting on a sustained poor posture. Gravity causes a fluid shift and therefore a shape change to take place. Successful therapy introduces a force that will reverse that shift. Any muscle energy techniques and strengthening exercises will be far more effective after this is achieved.
